Teach For Sierra Leone Internship 2021
Overview
The TFSL internship program is a unique opportunity for high achieving undergraduate and postgraduate students to get directly involved in an organization on the front lines of eliminating educational inequity in Sierra Leone, while building their own professional skill sets. Interns commit to working 8-12 weeks between the months of March and September 2021 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, during which they are embedded in a particular functional team of staff, and work to support specific projects based on need. The internship program is an unpaid opportunity to gain professional experience in a fast-paced, high-impact organization while making a direct impact on the lives of disadvantaged children in Sierra Leone.
What do interns at Teach For Sierra Leone do?
At Teach For Sierra Leone, we believe that children’s opportunity to learn should not be limited by the socio-economic condition of their parents. We need visionary leaders and meaningful change to build a country where all children have access to an excellent education. This is why we have designed a highly selective, rigorous and internationally-recognized leadership development program that places top graduates and young professionals into disadvantaged communities to teach full time for two years, as the first step in a lifelong commitment to social justice and ensuring excellent education for all children. Through unique and specialized training, this flagship Fellowship program enables Fellows to not only transform the lives of their students, but also themselves, and gives them the tools to become life-long leaders and advocates for equity in Sierra Leone.
What do interns at Teach For Sierra Leone do?
Interns gain insight into the Sierra Leone education system, access professional development through workshops and projects, and use the platform of Teach For Sierra Leone to impact meaningful change. Interns are immersed in the work through engaging critically with schools, communities, and multiple stakeholders, while working alongside managers and other staff to effectively deliver on their assigned project(s). Areas of focus include but are not limited to recruitment and outreach, research and fieldwork, writing and communications, and partnership development.
Why become an intern?
Teach For Sierra Leone’s internship program is designed to help interns develop professional and leadership skills while giving them the platform to directly impact the stakeholders we work with – from Fellows, to leadership development officers, to students, to donors. Interns will work alongside dynamic and creative professionals who are invested in making educational equity a reality in Sierra Leone, and are deeply committed to the shared success of the team.
